Core Curriculum

Our dynamic curriculum blends traditional and innovative methods to provide the rigor and skills necessary for independent thinking and achievement. Designed to intrigue and tantalize, OWS curriculum materials reflect the latest research and best educational practices in gifted education. OWS students discover how to ask questions, seek answers and explore topics in depth through hands-on learning experiences. The school philosophy is echoed in our curriculum and is applied in small classes that accommodate different learning styles. Problem solving and higher order thinking skills are emphasized. Grade level benchmarks, curriculum mapping and frequent assessment ensure that students build a strong foundation in academic skills and content. Our curriculum goal is to develop fluent, original thinkers who assume responsibility for their learning. Integrating instruction across the disciplines makes learning relevant, encourages associative thinking, solidifies concepts and may be the springboard to higher-level applications. OWS provides students rich experiences in these areas: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Library, Movement/PE, Art, Music, Drama, Computers and Spanish.
