Step 2: Testing

Testing Centers: Click here for a list of examiners that OWS families have used for IQ and/or achievement testing. Parents arrange for student testing and should call providers directly for current fees and/or appointments.

Lower School Applicants Grades K-4

Kindergarten -2nd Grade Applicants
• IQ Test results at 95th % Full Scale or above or participation in a full-time public school gifted program
• Transcript from previous school

3rd and 4th Grade Applicants
• IQ Test results at 95th % Full Scale or above and transcripts from previous school
• Standardized Achievement Test Scores

Middle School Applicants Grades 5-8

5th-8th grade applicants

• IQ Test results at 95th % Full Scale or above or participation in a full-time public school gifted program

• Standardized Achievement Test Scores

• ISEE Test Scores

1. Required IQ Testing
An I.Q. (Intelligence Quotient) Test measures verbal and non-verbal problem solving abilities. It is not an achievement test.

For children 6 years of age and under, either:
• Wechsler Intelligence Test (WPPSI-III) or
• Stanford-Binet, V

For children 6 years of age and above:
• Wechsler Intelligence Test (WISC-IV)

Minimum IQ Score: Students who achieved a full scale or composite score at the 95th percentile or higher on the IQ test are eligible to apply. (A COGAT group I.Q. test will not be accepted unless student participates in full-time public school gifted program.)

How long are test scores valid?: Test scores are valid for approximately 2 years.

How old should my child be for testing?: Children can be tested when they are at least 4 ½ years old. 

2. Required Achievement Testing

Students currently in 2nd grade or above need one of the following:
• Woodcock-Johnson III (WJ-III)
• Standardized group testing from a previous school (i.e., ITBS, ERB, MAT) are also acceptable measures of achievement

How long are achievement test scores valid?: Achievement test scores are valid for 1 year.

• ISEE test for applicants to grades 5-8
